Strategy.

It’s the fundamental foundation to good business.

Without a strategy, it’s easy to feel like you’re drifting along, snowed under by the immediate tasks at hand, without a big picture view. It’s easy to get to the end of the year and not feel any tangible difference from the year before.

And yet, I think strategy is one of the most misunderstood concepts out there.

Some people confuse strategy and tactics.

📽 For example, they may think their marketing strategy is to use short form video – but that’s actually a tactic.

📈 Others think strategy is something like “Increase revenue by 30%.” But that’s a goal.

A strategy helps you know where you’re going and how you’ll get there. 🗺

It’s a long-term plan that makes doing the day-to-day tasks easier for everyone involved.

It’s a hymn sheet for everyone to sing from together. 👩‍🎤

I’m here to help you with your data strategy.

With a good data strategy, you can find the best way to use your data for things like:

✅ Optimising processes

✅ Making decisions more quickly

✅ Improving customer satisfaction

✅ Increasing your revenue

✅ Improving efficiency

A good data strategy helps you find the insights faster, when they’re most useful to your business.

It helps everyone know things like:

🤔 Why are we using data?

🤔 How should we collect it?

🤔 What should we collect? What shouldn’t we?

🤔 What insights are we expecting from our data?

🤔 What data governance do we have in place?

It helps you solve problems like:

❌ Data silos – where the insights are restricted to just a few people; no one else can get to that data

❌ Data duplication – which can get expensive, first in storage costs, and later due to poor decisions based on outdated copies of data

❌ Misunderstanding priorities – defining that clear goal to keep front and centre helps everyone answer the questions that come up day-to-day

It helps your business improve in ways like:

😁 Improving customer experience – personalized products and services, discovering gaps in the market, and improved user interface are a few ways you can use data to help with this

😁 Moving from hindsight-based analysis (what happened last month/quarter) to foresight-based analysis (what will happen next month/quarter if we do X)

😁 Collecting data in such a way that you can create your own models to assist with forecasting, decision making, etc

When you know why you’re collecting data, how you’ll use it, and what your priorities are, your work becomes much easier.

Instead of creating a data lake, at huge expense 💸, saving everything you legally can just in case it’s useful, work out what’s important to you first.

It will save you and your team money 💰, frustration 😖, time ⏱, get you quicker results 📈, and help your customers trust you more 😊.

If this sounds like something your business would benefit from in 2025, let’s have a chat about crafting your data strategy.
